Electric Hong Kong

A Urban photography workshop where creativity meets multiple exposure

This is not your typical street photography workshop or just any photo tour, it’s a journey into the heart of one of the most dynamic, cinematic cities on Earth.

In this workshop, you'll breathe the rhythm of Hong Kong and learn how to translate it into images.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

Dates: 13rd - 16th November 2026

Duration3 days (optional 4th day)

Number of attendees: 8 people

Language: English

Price:

          3 days: € 950

          4 days: € 1100

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Unleash your creativity and take your photography to the next level with this photography workshop. We'll explore Hong Kong's vibrant streets, capturing its bustling energy, with neon lights illuminating the night and taxis passing by.

A key focus of the workshop will be experimentation, especially through the use of multiple exposure, the technique I use for most of my shots. You’ll learn how to blend frames, play with light and push your camera beyond its conventional limits to create unique, layered images full of depth and emotion.

At the same time, this workshop is not limited to that: whether you choose to experiment with this technique (not all types of camera have that option) or prefer to focus on more traditional street photography, you’ll be guided in developing your own visual approach.

The goal is to help you expand your creative vision and find your personal way of seeing: get ready to enhance your creative vision and take your photography to new heights.

WHAT WE'LL SHOOT

This workshop is not your typical photo walk and it’s definitely not about postcard shots of Hong Kong’s skyline. Instead, we’ll dive deep into the raw, chaotic and authentic soul of the city.
Over the course of the workshop, we’ll alternate between shooting Hong Kong Island during the day and Kowloon at night and vice versa, to fully experience the city’s contrasting energies.
In Hong Kong Island, we’ll explore areas like Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, one of the city’s most vibrant commercial districts, where endless layers of urban life collide, a real playground for visual experimentation, with lights, geometry and a constant flow of people.
At dusk, we’ll move into Kowloon, where the atmosphere becomes more intense and cinematic: areas like Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei explode with neon lights, narrow streets, tall buildings and the constant flow of taxis, minibuses and people. This is where Hong Kong reveals its true essence.

On the 4th optional day, we’ll head to Lamma Island, where everything slows down and the atmosphere shifts completely. Here we're far from the chaos of the city. Surrounded by nature, you’ll experience a different rhythm: sea breeze, colorful fishing boats drifting in the harbor and the everyday life of local fishermen.

This tour is not about comfort: we’ll walk through tight alleys, crowded streets, sometimes dirty, smelly and overwhelming environments…but that’s where the real Hong Kong lives! This workshop is about pushing your limits, embracing unpredictability and learning to see beauty in chaos.

WHY THIS WORKSHOP IS SPECIAL

Imagine walking the buzzing neon-lit alleys of Kowloon at night…the glow of signs reflected on wet pavement, the blur of taxis rushing by, the electric hum of the city.
This isn’t just any photo tour, it’s a journey into the heart of one of the most dynamic, cinematic cities on Earth. In this workshop, you'll see Hong Kong not as a tourist, but through the eyes of someone who has lived there, breathed its rhythm and learned how to translate it into images.

ABOUT ME

I’m Sergio Capuzzimati. I lived and worked many years in Hong Kong, wandering its hidden corners and its narrow alleys with my camera and often exploring its cinematic streets after dark.
I’ve exhibited my work in art galleries and art fairs in Hong Kong, Singapore and Italy.
In 2024 I published my first photobook Electric Dreams, where I collected some of the best photos I shot during these years in this incredible city.

I always try to shoot creatively and push my boundaries, that's why I started experimenting with multiple exposure, a technique that allows to overlap up to 10 photos together directly in the camera, with 4 different blending modes and this opens infinite possibilities for creative photography.

In this workshop, I’ll not only guide you through locations but help you explore creative techniques, push your vision and capture images that feel uniquely yours.

EACH PARTICIPANT WILL RECEIVE A SIGNED COPY OF MY PHOTOBOOK "ELECTRIC DREAMS"

"Electric Dreams" is a collection of approximately 90 photographs showcasing the dynamic cityscapes and nightscapes of Hong Kong. Organized with a first section of cityscapes and a second section of nightscapes, with a third section dedicated to the pulsing energy of Tokyo's and Osaka's streets.

WORKSHOP FAQs

What skill level is this workshop for?

The workshop is open to photographers of all skills level, as long as you're familiar with your camera and comfortable with its settings.

While I’ll be happy to offer technical guidance whenever needed, the main focus of the workshop is not on technical aspects of photography, but on helping you to develop a stronger creative vision and a more personal way of seeing.

What gear is recommended?

Since we’ll be focusing on street and urban photography, a compact and lightweight setup is generally recommended. Most of the times I don’t use a small camera, but having a less intrusive setup can make a big difference when working in crowded environments like Hong Kong.
A zoom lens can be particularly useful for some of the creative exercises and experiments we’ll explore during the workshop. That said, if you prefer working with a prime lens, that’s absolutely fine too, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable with your equipment, so we can focus on seeing and creating rather than thinking about settings.

How's a typical day structured?

This is not a “postcard” workshop, so we won’t be chasing perfect skyline views. Instead, we’ll dive deep into the real Hong Kong, walking through narrow, chaotic, sometimes dirty (...and smelly!) alleys where the true spirit of the city shows up.

We’ll be moving between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, making sure to experience both sides of the city during daytime and at night, capturing the different atmospheres.

A typical day will start at EastPro Gallery, where we'll organize the activity and do the critique (2nd and 3rd day). After that we'll do a shooting session at daytime on the Island side of Hong Kong, with another shooting session at night in Kowloon side. The following day we’ll switch, exploring Kowloon in daylight and Hong Kong Island after dark.

This approach will allow you to experience the city in a deeper way, understanding how light, mood and energy transform the same places in different times of the day.

On the optional 4th day, we’ll slow things down and head to Lamma Island, where we’ll explore a quieter and more natural side of Hong Kong.

Do I necessarily need to have a camera with multiple exposure?

Not necessarily: there are many ways to express your creativity, and multiple exposure is just one of them.

That said, if you’re interested in experimenting with this amazing technique, make sure your camera supports it, as not all camera brands include this feature.

The workshop is designed to adapt to your approach, whether you choose to explore multiple exposure or focus on more traditional ways of shooting.

What's the cancellation policy?

Cancellations made more than 30 days before the workshop are eligible for a 50% refund.

Unfortunately, cancellations made within 30 days of the workshop are non-refundable, as planning and logistics will already be in place. If you’re unable to attend, you’re welcome to transfer your spot to another person, subject to approval.

In the unlikely event that the workshop is cancelled by the organizer, a full refund will be issued.

What if the weather isn't ideal for shooting?

Hong Kong weather can be brutal sometimes, with lot of rain and occasionally also typhoons, but this happens mostly during rainy season, which normally goes from June to half September.

October to January normally are the most pleasant months in Hong Kong, with clear skyes and warm days. However, rain might occur, but the workshop will take place in most weather conditions, including rain. In these cases, sessions may be adapted by changing locations (for example, exploring covered areas, markets or shopping malls) while maintaining the overall experience.

In case of extreme weather conditions (such as typhoons or black rain warnings), the schedule may be adjusted, postponed or reorganized to ensure everyone’s safety amd if the workshop cannot be delivered as planned due to severe conditions, a partial refund or alternative solution may be offered at the organizer’s discretion.

Where will we review the photos?

Every morning we'll gather at EastPro Gallery (9/A, 223 Gloucester road, Causeway Bay - Hong Kong).

Before starting the shooting session, we'll do the critique for the shots taken on the previous day.

What's the final outcome of the workshop?
